I've recently been walking through a really hard season, where my emotions have been overwhelming and all over the place. Most of the time, I feel conflicting emotions at the same time and it's hard to understand how to navigate processing them.
When I saw that Jennie Allen released a new book, I knew I had to read it! She is one of my favorite christian authors, and I absolutely love everything she writes. But, when I saw she was writing about emotions, I was so excited because it couldn't have been more timely for me. I desperately needed some Godly wisdom spoken into me about the big emotions I am feeling.
And boy, she didn't let me down. I can't say enough good things about this book.
In Untangle Your Emotions, Jennie Allen talks through how God views emotions, his purpose for creating them, and then how we can start to understand our emotions and process them in healthy ways, the way Jesus intended. She provides a detailed step by step guide of how to untangle our emotions by noticing, naming, feeling, sharing, and choosing what to do with them.
This is how we can better identify how we are feeling, what we are feeling, why we might be feeling a certain way, how to be vulnerable and let the right people in to connect with and process, and finally choosing how to use emotions for the goodness of God.
It's not an easy thing to be emotionally healthy, and I know where I'm at I have a lot of work to do in this area, but the wisdom of this book has helped shape my outlook on emotions, and has inspired me to continue working through the big emotions I am feeling right now.
Instead of trying to control, cope, or conceal feelings, facing them head on and really feeling them is the only way to truly heal from these big emotions. I am so grateful for the words of wisdom in this book, leading me back to Jesus to help process everything I am feeling.
Whether you're going through a tough season like me and need some help processing everything you are feeling, or you just want to learn how God views emotions, his purpose in creating them, and how we can use our emotions the way he intended, I would highly recommend this book!
