Taylor Jenkins Reid has quickly become one of my favorite authors. If you haven't read any of her books, I would highly recommend just about any of them. Some of her more popular reads and some of my favorites are The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, Malibu Rising, and Daisy Jones & the Six. But, she has many more beyond this list that are worth reading!
What I love about Taylor Jenkins Reid is that all of her books are so unique in the way the story is told. She develops characters in a way that makes you feel like you know them, so you're instantly invested in their journey. Plus, her storylines are unlike anything I've read anywhere else. Her writing is so creative, engaging, and easy to read.
She has even created a whole fictional world where storylines from different books overlap without them being sequels. I just love her style! One True Loves is no different.
One True Loves is a romance novel about the ultimate love triangle. I know, love triangles are very common among romance novels, but have you ever heard of a love triangle between a presumed dead husband, a grieving wife, and a childhood crush turned fiancé?
I am not going to spoil anything – everything I will tell you, you could read from the summary on the back of the book. But here's the premise.
Emma marries her high school sweetheart, Jesse. They moved away from the life their families wanted them to live, and they now live a very unconventional life, working adventurous jobs, and enjoying the west coast. Jesse leaves on their first wedding anniversary for another adventurous work trip when his helicopter goes missing over the Pacific Ocean. Jesse is presumed dead, even though they never found his body.
Grieving Emma moves back home to her hometown to be near her family and runs into an old friend from childhood, Sam. They end up falling in love and getting engaged. Emma feels like she has finally turned her life around with a second chance at a happy ending, only to get a call from Jesse. He survived the helicopter crash and has been trying to get back to her for years.
Now, Emma has a husband and a fiancé and has to decide what to do, who to choose. Who does she love? Which life does she want to live? How do you choose between your husband and the life you thought you had and your fiancé and the life you've built since your husband's presumed death?
This book is completely heart wrenching, devastatingly beautiful, and emotion-filled. It's hard to put into words. But you know it's a good book when you are sad that it's over. All I can say is...
Linda, Listen – If you love a romance novel, you should read this! You will laugh, cry, and never want it to end. Let me know what you think if you do!
